Freedom In Your Life by Slowing Down Time
We track conventional time on our watches. It helps us have a common language and convention around how and when to assemble. The definition of time controls airports, schools, workplaces. It works and is a wonderful tool we have where we stand in the world.
However, it doesn’t speak of the quality of time. It goes faster or slower depending on our state of consciousness where we are parked. When we are involved in daily, frantic, zooming around, there is never enough time. When on a holiday for time slow down and stretches out and find ourselves feeling restless, looking down at our watches and amazed it’s still early in the day. How does this seeming stopping of time happen?
We time travel all the time.
Our consciousness has access to things all over the timeline and often takes us out of the present moment of slowed down time. It pulls us into some “other time” where we can spend much of our energy. It can pull us away from “now” and keep us fixated on a traumatic event “then” or an anticipated event “soon”.
The present moment of slowed down time is where we have full access certain parts of our consciousness that have the ability to slow down and stop time. This is the slow state of athletes and Zen mind of meditators. It effectively puts us back into the driver’s seat and gives us the personal power to choose where we allocate our time. It makes us much more efficient, so we can do more (and do it better) while staying calm in a space of slowed down time.
Taking Control of How We Engage with Time
We can slow the quality of time with our breath, with our mind, and by controlling our biorhythms.
Taking time for ourselves is the most important thing we could do for our personal development and mental health. Our ability to choose wisely and spend our valuable time on our goals is the real sign of mastery.
Change is the only constancy in the Universe.
The key is to live in the now and embrace change. When things don’t feel good, move back into the now. Why? That is where our power lives. That is where we can tap into the vast energy currents that can flow through us, and that is where peace and wisdom reside. The present moment, we have the clarity and insight to make better decisions. We control and slow down time to change our perception of it.
Master moves with time and adjusts constantly as a good surfer makes micro adjustments in order to stay on a wave that is moving and crashing all around him.
Being rigid makes us fall. being afraid of change paralyzes us.
To remain still means to move with time, to move with the Universe. Stillness is actually the state of moving with the Universe in unison.
This exercise is powerful but looks simple. Tapping into Universe slows down time can be achieved by first tapping into your breath. This exercise calms the mind, decreases reactivity, and power the frontal lobes of the brain, which will help you think before you commit to items on your calendar.
- Sit in a comfortable position with your spine straight.
- Touch the tip of your tongue to the roof of your mouth.
- Gently start breathing in and out through your nose with your mouth closed
- Breathe to a spot about 3 inches below your navel. (three fingers below the navel, deep in the center of your body.)
- Inflate (on inhale) and deflate (on exhale) this area of each passing breath.
- On your next inhale, slowly breathe down to your lower abdomen for a count of 4, counting slowly and evenly.
- Hold your breath when full for a count of 2.
- Slowly exhale for a count of 4, be fully empty by the end of it, and time it so you can do so.
- Hold your breath for a count of 2.
- Back to the inhale for 4
- Keeping following this basic pattern for as long as is comfortable (or desired).
- Make sure you’re in and out breaths keep the same rhythm. Pay attention to top and bottom of the breath.
Doing this practice for at least 10 min a day in order to master the art of slowing down time.
