Being At Home In Muddy Waters

In our present days of uncertainty with the pandemic, it has reminded me of some important tools to bring forward.  This morning a thought came to me, reminding me of a book I read back in 2006 titled, “At Home in Muddy Waters” by Ezra Bayda.  I found this book, after being burnt out and quitting my job.  I was sitting at a crossroads back then. I didn’t know what my life looked like, I isolated myself and took inventory of what was left deep within me.  The flip side to that though was it brought me into alignment and completed a full cycle of thriving, struggling, surviving and back to thriving.  When all was said and done, I said something like “why didn’t I do it sooner”.  I saw how one event of choosing something, brought me forward and now doing my purpose and passion today.

The “muddy waters” are negative events and situations throughout one’s entire life that have not been fully resolved.  Present situations and or people with similar emotions get triggered by these past unresolved emotional events.  Emotions can bubble up on a day to day basis and take us over like a tsunami in your mind colliding with unprocessed or suppressed negative emotions.

I like the phrase “At Home in Muddy Waters” instead of “isolation” or “social distancing”.  At home has many meanings within your body, mind and spirit.  A home may be a secure, non-physical place as the muddy waters are being stirred up in the world.  For others, the physical home may be a trigger for a person’s own muddy water. Let us look at these three meanings.

First, at home in your body is feeling comfortable in your body. It is what you see in the mirror. Some social media messaging has told you to be at war with your body and promises the carrot that is dangling in front of you.  Their advertising tells us that if you buy XYZ, you will feel (insert carrot) happy, peace, calm, content, etc.  When products fail, it may feel the carrot is somehow out of reach resulting in the internal messaging that something is wrong with you.  It is the emotions that are unresolved and that is not addressed that muddies the waters.

Next, there is another meaning at home in muddy waters, in our mind.  We’ve distanced ourselves, muddied our waters with distractions like smoking, drinking, shopping, TV, social media, gambling and the list goes on.   Our idea of friends is 5oo friends on FaceBook and truthfully only know a handful of them.   By sitting still in our minds with muddy waters, we can hear all the lies that are fabricated in our thoughts/beliefs about ourselves including what other people have told us about who we are.  The only person that truly knows us is that part of us that shuts down more and more and trusts other people more than ourselves. Our thoughts are huge sources of cloudiness.

Lastly, at home in muddy waters in our spiritual home whether you choose your spiritual focus to be with the universe, unseen forces, God, Buddha, or whoever you connect with on higher, unseen energies and entities, there are options.  As the saying goes, “Many roads lead to Rome”, any road you choose leads you back home to who you truly are as spirit.

When we are at home in these three ways, body, mind and spirit, it is like forming a pyramid of who you truly are and who you have always been.  Like the great pyramids, that have stood the test of time.   It is a miracle, mysterious and mind-boggling that our body/mind/spirit has stood many tests of time.

When we are working 100% on all three levels, we are powerful, connected, plugged into our truth- our true North.  Not 100% truth resulting from media, science, religion or anything else.  We are plugged into our all-knowing.  That is when your truth awakens you and you come out a coma on some level.  We have our power given back and are able to sort, sift and filter through other people’s/organization’s truths and be very selective of what we choose to digest and affect our own body/mind and spirit.

By being at home in muddy waters, each of us (if we get comfortable with time spent here), can witness the transformation as we experience this distancing process now.  It’s like a caterpillar that has been forced by evolution (or world shutdown) to go into a cocoon setting, spend time melting down.  This melting down is a process of gathering strength within and let the muddy waters settle just like in Italy.  In Italy, with this shut down happening, many of the dolphins, fish, marine life are swimming once again in the canals, but before this it was murky.  During this time, many people sit out on their balconies and play beautiful music to neighbors and communities.  Also, in and around Los Angeles, people are reporting that they are seeing blue sky and all the skyscrapers, etc.  These are things that many haven’t seen for a long time due to smog.  It’s like going to the top of a mountain or Grande Canyon and seeing forever, the beauty of our home – Earth.   Being at home in muddy waters has many benefits on some level if you see it as a blessing in disguise and world correction.  In a short time, there has been a great visual of what is possible.  We all have free will and willpower to do a little each day.  The journey begins with a single step.

we are still, go within and allow the things that have clouded, muddy our body/mind/spirit we can meet ourselves like going to a reunion after 10, 20, 30 plus years.  Hopefully you won’t want to not lose contact with yourself again and want to make a daily, weekly, practice of connecting as you do with your loved ones.

Ways you can do it is by being still while sipping a cup of tea or coffee and connecting to nature outside like bouquets of flowers within your home or a candle as it dances in the darkness at night.  Other ways are meditation, walking in nature and listen to birds or children or feel the soles of your feet connect to the ground and know you are supported.

I have noticed in the last two weeks as I go for walks how my experience has changed immensely as I approach each person on the path.  I see families out walking, and when  I pass them, our eyes (souls) connect, smile and greet each other.  It’s like confirmation of fully seeing each other once again, like going to that reunion.

My wish is for your own discovery of muddy waters in your body/mind/spirit.  I want you to see clarity in life and connect to the world differently.  I know how powerful we are when we can see farther standing on that mountain top rather than in the valley of darkness.

Until Zen…… may you get to know the true you, your spirit that is guiding your mind and body back home to health, happiness and freedom.  See my special for this month to help you be at home in your muddy waters.
